Elsevier&#8217;s\u00a0<em><strong>Clinician of the Future 2026: Nurses Edition<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0is the first-ever global report dedicated entirely to nurses&#8217; voices, drawing insights from\u00a0<strong>2,757\u00a0clinicians<\/strong>\u00a0across\u00a0<strong>118 countries<\/strong>. The report paints\u00a0a vivid picture of the pressures nurses face today: heavier patient loads, rapid technological change, and a growing gap in how AI is being adopted across the care team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a nursing student, understanding these trends\u00a0isn&#8217;t\u00a0just interesting \u2014\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0essential preparation for\u00a0your career and the roadmap for understanding\u00a0what&#8217;s\u00a0coming, and\u00a0what&#8217;s\u00a0at stake.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are some key insights from the report:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nurses are under pressure<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>61% of nurses are seeing more patients than a year ago\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>42%\u00a0find that\u00a0keeping up with\u00a0new technologies\u00a0and tools\u00a0challenging\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>34% have experienced tiredness or exhaustion that has impaired their ability to treat patients\u00a0effectively\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Nurses are not getting the\u00a0most out of AI tools<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>AI adoption is lower among nurses (41%) than doctors (57%)\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nurses spend more time with patients, giving them less time to use AI. On average, a patient has about eight hours of daily contact with a nurse.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There is still skepticism in the field, only 42% of nurses believe AI tools are trustworthy\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">But, <strong>Nurses are optimistic about the future of AI in healthcare<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>53% of nurses\u00a0perceive\u00a0AI tools give them more choice\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>51% of nurses feel that AI tools empower them\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c[AI] allows me to spend more time looking at and talking with my patients instead of taking notes. It also is\u00a0very helpful\u00a0in creating patient education materials or instructions that can be tailored to their specific needs\u201d\u00a0&#8211; <strong>Nurse, USA\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The data is&nbsp;clear,&nbsp;from heavier patient loads&nbsp;to the slow uptake of AI tools.
